2003 AZTRACK Alumni Annual Excursion

USATF National Track and Field Championships

University of Stanford 

Palo Alto, CA (June 19 - 22, 2003)

 

Well, the numbers of attendees were down this year, and the main excuse we heard was "I am saving myself for next year in Sacramento!" Better book early for that one, as the Olympic Trials in Sacramento is sure to be an AWESOME time for all involved!

This year found some of the old faithfulls (Mark Sanders, Andy Sythe, Rich Fox) joined by Wellington (Beef) Pendell and Steve Nuchols (who brought his dad and boys also!) Jennifer Nanista and Rahn Sheffield were there as coaches with their contingent of athletes, including Shanon Meyer (heptathlon), San Diego State's first Junior National Champ! Shanon ran a blistering 800 meters to overcome a nearly 200 point deficit to take the crown!

The trip was much fun, as always.......including trips to the "Old Pro" Sports bar for Lobster Dinner, a trip to old down town Palo Alto followed by a small "get together" in Rich Fox's room at the Westin where Rahn Sheffield received a call for disturbing the piece at 3:00am! What's up with that Rahn! hehehe..... Knuckles Sports Bar at the Hyatt Rickey's carried over as our central meeting spot, if we found nothing better to do.

The meet was brought back to one central location this year, which saw the combination of the multis with the regular track meet! Much better, though we would have liked to see the senior men and women multi events compete together!!! Not that we have any pull with the USATF!
