2002 AZTRACK Alumni Annual Excursion
USATF National Track and Field Championships
University of Stanford
Palo Alto, CA (June 18 - 23, 2002)
This year's event saw the combination of the National Junior Championships, and the Senior Nationals. Reviews were mixed as this made for a long, broken up day of track and field, and made it difficult for even the most diehard of fans to thoroughly enjoy the meet.
The Multi
events were also combuned with the Junior Nationals competing on Tuesday and
Wednesday, and the Seniors on Wednesday and Thursday, at UC Berkley. The
separation of the multis from the regular meet didn't seem to go over real well
as the spectator to fan ratio was almost 1:1. It is in my humble opinion that
the Multi Event athletes deserve the same appreciation from the fans as the
individual event athletes.
Steve Nuchols and Mark Sanders attended both days of the Multis, while Rich Fox
came up from Andy's mom's house in Los Gatos for the second day.
Anyways, the trip was great fun overall! Had some of the regular gang show up, as well as some first time alumni, which is ALWAYS great to see! If you planned to come, but didn't.....make sure you're there next year, as Stanford will again be hosting the Nationals in 2003!
Some of
the highlights from this years trip:
*Evening "meetings" at Knuckles Sports Bar.
*Day trip to the San Francisco Bay, Fisherman's Warf for sightseeing (and the
